Call for Expression of Interest (EOI) for Private-Sector Engagement in Sustainable Waste Management and Recycling
Sustainable Waste Management, Circular Economy and Recycling Solutions in Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone faces growing challenges from inadequate solid-waste management, plastic pollution, marine litter, blocked drainage, flooding and associated public-health risks. These challenges are particularly visible in rapidly urbanizing and coastal communities. This EOI seeks practical, scalable, and sustainable solutions that strengthen waste recovery, recycling, and circular economy approaches in the target locations.

Through funding from the Government of Iceland, UNICEF and partners established recycling facilities in Konacreydee and Tombo to promote community-based waste recovery, recycling, livelihoods and environmental improvement. While the facilities have valuable infrastructure and equipment, they are currently underutilized and require sustainable operational models. At the same time, there remains substantial untapped potential to transform plastic waste from an environmental challenge into an economic and social opportunity by supporting innovative recycling, reuse and circular economy solutions.

UNICEF Sierra Leone invites legally registered private-sector companies, social enterprises, commercial recycling operators and consortiums to submit Expressions of Interest. The EOI is organized into two Lots, and applicants may apply for one or both Lots depending on their technical expertise and operational capacity.
