RfP for a Survey on the arabica coffee value chain in Vietnam

UNDP Viet Nam is looking for 01 qualified consultancy firm/institute/organization for a Survey on the arabica coffee value chain in the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.

Coffee value chains play a central role in national economies, and they contribute substantially to export earnings worldwide. According to the FAO (2025), more than 25 million farmers depend on its production to earn a living, while UN Comtrade (2025) statistics show the overall value of annual coffee exports has increased by about 212% over the last 25 years, rising from US$ 9.8 billion in 1999 to US$ 30.6 billion in 2024.

In this context, UNDP, on behalf of UNCTAD, is seeking a National Consulting Firm to conduct field-based quantitative survey of the actors involved in the arabica coffee value chain – including producers, intermediaries, roasters, packers, exporters and others – on the opportunities and challenges of traceability in arabica coffee value chains in the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. The following sections outline the objectives, scope of work, duties and deliverables, qualifications, and contractual conditions of the consultancy.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSIGNMENT

• The Consulting Firm will organize and implement a survey of the arabica coffee value chain in the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam (specifically Dien Bien and Son La provinces). The data and associated information resulting from this survey will inform subsequent activities in the project. UNCTAD will also use them to elaborate a study on the “Opportunities and challenges of traceability to foster multi-dimensional sustainability of the arabica coffee value chains for trade in Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Thailand and Viet Nam”.
