Description

UNESCO, with financial support from the European Union, is implementing the project Africa–Europe Partnerships for Culture: Promoting Culture and Heritage-Based Sustainable Tourism in Southern Africa. The project is being implemented in six countries, namely Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, and aims to strengthen governance, enhance sustainable and inclusive tourism development, and improve the management, interpretation, and promotion of cultural and heritage sites.

Following the completion of the baseline study and national validation processes at the Matobo Hills World Heritage Site, the project has entered its implementation phase. This phase focuses on strengthening governance and coordination mechanisms, developing key planning and management instruments, enhancing interpretation and visitor experiences, and building institutional and community capacities for sustainable heritage management and tourism development.

To support the implementation of these activities, UNESCO is seeking a national consultant to provide contextualized technical support, facilitate stakeholder coordination and contribute to the development of key planning and management tools for the Matobo World Heritage Site. The consultant will work closely with international experts, project partners and national stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and alignment with project objectives.
