Services for Value Chain Data Collection and MSMEs Business Engagement Events in Afghanistan

Background

UNDPs Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (ICPSD), one of UNDPs Global Thematic Policy Centers, acts as an enabler for the private sector and foundations to become more active partners in development by providing policy advice and technical services that contribute to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda. Through its Crisis and Resilience portfolio, ICPSD supports private sector-led solutions in fragile and crisis-affected contexts, helping strengthen economic resilience, promote sustainable livelihoods, and foster inclusive private sector development.

Afghan MSMEs are essential components of Afghanistan’s economic growth, job creation and local economic resilience, making over 80 percent of total employment. Despite their importance, they face interconnected challenges, particularly in post-harvest activities, accessing finance, complying with market and export requirements. To address these challenges, UNDP ICPSD will provide support to UNDP Afghanistan through the establishment of an MSME Support Center. This Center will strengthen the competitiveness and resilience of Afghan enterprises through integrated support for value chain development, trade facilitation, and access to finance, with particular attention to women-led and rural businesses. To support the implementation of these activities, UNDP ICPSD intends to engage a supplier to support value chain data collection and analysis, facilitate B2B meetings, trade cohort activities, investment matchmaking events, and stakeholder coordination in Afghanistan. For further details, please refer to the attached Terms of Reference (TOR).
