WASH Infrastructure Improvement Works, Lungga Clinic, Guadalcanal Province, Solomon Islands
BACKGROUND
The World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS), is implementing activities under the GEF Climate-Health Programme to strengthen climate-resilient health systems in the Solomon Islands.
An assessment conducted at Lungga Area Health Center (AHC) identified critical gaps in water supply, sanitation, hygiene, and healthcare waste management systems. The facility currently faces challenges including unsafe and unreliable water supply, non-functional WASH infrastructure, and inadequate waste management practices which do not meet Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards.
WHO seeks to engage a qualified contractor to undertake WASH infrastructure improvement works aimed at strengthening climate resilience, environmental sustainability, and safe healthcare service delivery.
OBJECTIVES OF THE ACTIVITY
To improve Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) infrastructure at Lungga AHC to ensure:
- Reliable and safe water supply systems;
- Functional sanitation and hygiene facilities;
- Improved healthcare waste management systems;
- Compliance with IPC guidelines and national standards.
