Consultancy to Conduct Climate Risk Analysis and Vulnerability Assessment (CRAVA

Scope of the study

The International Technical Consultancy Service Provider NGO/Firms will undertake the following tasks:

Inception Report Desk Review

·        Conduct a desk Review (reports, policy briefs) using Key informant interviews (expert views in the field of DCAS)-different partners engaged such as WFP,FAO, South Sudan Met services-SSMD, SSCAA and Different line Ministries inclusive of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Farmers engagement and Pastoralists in the project locations Terekeka and Kapoeta

Community Stakeholders engagements

·        on survey to understand migration flows connected to climate patterns and Conduct surveys in Terekeka and Kapoeta (with at least 50% representation of either men or women) to collect details on land use patterns, Agricultural areas for sorghum production, pastoralism, migration"

Hazard Mapping and Climate Projections:

·        Develop GIS maps of climate change projections (temperature and precipitation trends) and their implications for future hazard trends (e.g., floods, droughts).

·        Use climate models and satellite data to illustrate long-term climate risks and identify climate vulnerable hotspots.

Risk Mapping and Sectoral Overlays:

·        Produce GIS maps overlaying hazard data with agricultural production areas, infrastructure (roads, bridges, water points), human settlements, and population distributions.

·        Conduct risk mapping for key sectors (agriculture, natural resources, pastoralism, infrastructure, migration) at national level.

Vulnerability and Livelihood Analysis:

·        Carry out localized climate risks and vulnerability assessments, focusing on Terekeka and Kapoeta counties.

·        Overlay socio-economic data and community assets with hazard maps to assess exposure and sensitivity.

·        Conduct a desktop study of migration and livestock movements linked to climate variability.

Participatory Data Collection:

·        Support field-level surveys (ensuring gender representation of at least 50%) to collect ground data on land use patterns, sorghum production areas, pastoral zones, and migration routes.

·        Carry out Key stakeholders Engagement and community consultation on 

·        Develop a gender responsive capacity building plan based

·        on gaps identified

·        Offer gender responsive, actionable recommendations to

·        various stakeholders on climate change hazards, vulnerabilities, and impacts across sectors,

·        Integrate data using platforms such as KoBo Toolbox.

Development of Digital GIS Products:

·        Develop a comprehensive National GIS map showing major climate Risks and hazards projections

·        Produce two detailed local-level GIS maps for Terekeka and Kapoeta to show climate change hazards, vulnerabilities, and impacts across sectors,

·        Ensure integration into UNDP’s ArcGIS-based systems and provide metadata for all layers. To be hosted by UNDP or University of Juba Platform

·        Disseminate a comprehensive package of national-level GIS products, including climate change projections and hazard trends; sector-specific risk maps (flood and drought, agriculture, migration, infrastructure); local climate vulnerability and multi-hazard maps for Terekeka and Kapoeta; a desktop study on climate-linked migration and livestock movements; a consolidated national GIS dataset with metadata in shapefile (.shp) and GeoTIFF (.tif) formats; full technical documentation and user guides; and presentation of findings to stakeholders through a workshop.
