I. BACKGROUND / RATIONALE

This assignment is part of the ongoing implementation of the "Enhancing Nigeria’s AfCFTA Export Readiness: Empowering MSMEs for Intra-Africa Trade" initiative. The project is designed to support Nigerian Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to take advantage of opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by strengthening their export capacity, investment readiness, and compliance with trade protocols.

A key challenge identified in the early implementation phase is the underrepresentation of MSMEs from several states in national and regional trade facilitation efforts. Many of these enterprises remain outside formal trade networks, lack knowledge of AfCFTA requirements, and are unaware of existing support systems. To address this gap, the project seeks to recruit and mobilize MSMEs in underserved regions and enhance their understanding of trade documentation, regulatory compliance, and export processes.

This consultancy is therefore aimed at identifying eligible MSMEs and business clusters, building local awareness around AfCFTA provisions, and supporting practical steps toward export compliance through structured engagements with the organised private sector, cooperatives, and business chambers.
