Description
The Climate Risk & Early Warning Systems (CREWS) Initiative funds life-saving climate action. It helps the world’s poorest and most vulnerable countries build early warning systems against various types of hazards such as floods and drought. The goal of CREWS is for the poorest and most climate vulnerable people to be able to protect their lives and livelihoods in the face of climate danger. This is realized through ensuring timely, accurate forecasting and early warning reaches every person for necessary action. The CREWS MEAL framework was developed and approved by the Steering Committee in April 2024 following an extensive consultation process. It is aligned with and contributes to the global goals of the Sendai Framework, Paris Agreement, Sustainable Development Goals, and the United Nations’ Secretary-General’s Early Warning for All Initiative. To support its application and roll-out, a number of capacity building activities and continuous mentoring and support are being provided to the CREWS Implementing Partners. Following the development of the CREWS MEAL framework, CREWS is also tasked to improve its system to implement it. The system set up would involve defining a robust process for integrating the framework in the CREWS project cycle and developing M&E tools to assist the Steering Committee, Secretariat, and Implementing Partners at each stage of the project cycle – design, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation.
