The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), on behalf of Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) invites qualified interested firms to submit Expression of Interest (EOI) to participate in the upcoming solicitation for provision of technical assistance for customized weather and climate information system for climate-resilient agriculture in Nepal. United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on behalf of the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) requires the services of an institution to deliver the technical assistance. The overall objective of this technical assistance is to develop an application programming interface (API) for the automatic dissemination of location-specific customised 3-days weather forecast to farmers in a user-friendly language through appropriate dissemination mechanisms, including mobile- and internet-based SMS technologies, that will be tested in selected communities in Nepal. More information about the project can be found at https://www.ctc-n.org/system/files/response_plans/Project%20Concept%20Note_Nepal_AF2021000043_signed.pdf Some of the expected outcome, outputs and activities are; • Diagnose the existing climatological and meteorological information system in Nepal • Design an application programming interface (API) for the automatic dissemination of location-specific customised 3-days weather forecast • Design the interface to disseminate location-specific customised 3-days weather forecast to farmers using identified communication mechanisms including mobile- and Internet-based SMS • Test the designed API and identified communication mechanisms including mobile- and Internet-based SMS technologies in the selected communities • Deploy the system in the selected communities, build capacity of local government, farmers and civil society, and develop strategy for upscaling the system • Scale up step by step implementation guide and strategy for upscaling the system in Nepal • Development of implementation planning and communication documents The complete details of the requirement will be provided in the tender documents that will be issued to bidders after this request for EOI is closed.
