Description

Namibia is a large energy importer and imports up to 56% of its electricity needs from the SADC region. The current power deficit being experienced by Namibia’s main suppliers and a subsequent eminent disruption to the country’s power supplies is a major threat to the current country’s steady economic growth. The Government of Namibia is therefore exploring ways of enhancing power supply and promoting efficient use of available electricity resources to avert economic disruption. This is the entry point for the NEEP project, which seeks to encourage energy efficient technologies and practices, mainly in the commercial and residential building sector.

The purpose of the Study on Potential Energy Efficiency Technologies and Socio-Economic Survey is to provide a basis for evaluating a variety of initiatives that focus on transforming building practices and energy efficiency in new and existing residential and non-residential buildings. Its main output is to provide necessary information for development of detailed list of recommended EE appliances and materials for the building sector recommended for large scale promotion and taxes and excise duty reduction.
