Construction of a Pest Monitoring and Control Centre at Qardho, Puntland - Somalia (20/262).

Since the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, federal Government of Somalia lack personnel and equipment required effectively monitoring, report and controlling the Desert Locust and there is an urgent need to improve the capacity in this front. Therefore, TCP3801 addresses basically the establishment of a semi-autonomous unit dedicated to the monitoring and control of the Desert Locust to ensure sustainability.

OBJECTIVES
The main objective is to support the FMoAI to:
(i) Establish a semi-autonomous National Desert Locust Unit (NDLU)
(ii) Assemble and train a team of Desert Locust Information Officer (DLIO) and field personnel capable of monitoring and controlling the Desert Locust and
(iii) Equip the newly formed NDLU with basic facilities tools and equipment required to fulfil its role

Location: The proposed construction site is Qardho, Puntland – Somalia. The site lies between Garowe and Bossaso and it’s 206km from Garowe, accessible via a tarmac road.
