UNESCO plans to continue implementing Skills Development and Literacy (SDL) initiatives with a focus on strengthening job-related and market-relevant skills for both men and women beneficiaries, alongside foundational literacy and numeracy competencies. Programme interventions also aim to promote longer-term behavioural change within families and communities by equipping learners and caregivers with parenting guidance, enabling them to better support their children’s care, development, and education. Overall, the SDL programme aims to empower individuals with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values needed to become productive, healthy, and responsible members of society.

The programme adopts a community-based approach, prioritising youth and adults, particularly women who have been deprived of education.

The programme integrates psychosocial support, parenting and practical livelihood skills within curriculum packages developed and contextualized by UNESCO, with support from consultants and implementing partners.
