Description

The UN Women Training Centre (TC) is dedicated to supporting the UN and other stakeholders to realize commitments to gender equality, women’s empowerment and women’s rights through transformative training and learning.

An introductory, interactive, didactic and self-paced e-course on gender equality has been developed by the UN Women Training Centre, at the request of the Inter-Agency Network on Women and Gender Equality (IANWGE) and supported by the Coordination Division under the umbrella of the UN System-wide Action Plan on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-SWAP). This course, which is entitled “I Know Gender: An Introduction to Gender Equality for UN Staff” can be found on UN Women’s eLearning Campus at trainingcentre.unwomen.org.

The overall objective of the “I Know Gender” course is to develop and/or strengthen knowledge, understanding and awareness of basic concepts related to gender equality and women’s empowerment for UN staff, at headquarters, regional and country levels, thus promoting the integration of a gender equality perspective in everyday work and with a view to bring about behavioral change.

The e-learning course’s target audience is all UN staff with no specific background on gender equality and at all levels (from general service staff to professionals). Therefore, the e-learning course does not focus on technical skills in gender analysis and mainstreaming methods and it does not target practitioners who already possess a technical background in gender mainstreaming and women’s empowerment.

The course consists of three mandatory modules which users must complete sequentially. These are:

1.            Gender Concepts to Get Started

2.            International Frameworks for Gender Equality

3.            Promoting Gender Equality throughout the UN System

SEGIB has approached the UN Women Training Centre in order to explore the possibility of developing a module on Gender Equality. SEGIB’s mandate to mainstream gender in the iberoamerican system has been reiterated in Ibero-American Summits by Heads of State and Government since 2005, including in the most recent XXV Summit of Cartagena. In response to this mandate SEGIB and other ibero-american organizations  have developed a Joint Action Plan, which includes capacity development for gender mainstreaming as one of its main components. Developing this specialized module will allow SEGIB to deliver on this objective and provide access to all ibero-american staff, key stakeholders and partners with an understanding and awareness of basic concepts related to gender equality and women’s empowerment. Additionally SEGIB would like to:

  • Adapt modules 1 and 2 in order to regionalize examples, resources and references.
  • Create an Space with their identity in the eCampus
  • Translate Modules 1 and 2 adaptation, as well as the new SEGIB module to Portuguese This should be considered a Phase II of the project and is subject to availability of funds.

This proposal includes all activities required to develop and package a specialized module consistent with the I Know Gender. Final content will be provided by UN Women, as well as the Storyline template and access to the UN Women Training Centre Moodle site for tests.
