Description

The Office of the Representative of the United Nations Population Fund, Manila is seeking proposal from competent Consultants or Institutions to perform the project:

Survey on Young Adult Fertility and Sexuality - Data Collection Phase

Rationale and Objectives:

Over the past few years, surveys have been conducted to assess the sexuality behaviors of the youth and young adults, and address the gap in information on sexual and fertility-related attitudes and behavior of Filipino youth.  Recent surveys also included the emerging topics of sexuality and reproductive health, knowledge and awareness on HIV/AIDS, and non-sexual risk behaviors such as smoking, drinking, and drug abuse.  In 2009, a consultant group was engaged to undertake the development of survey instruments in furtherance to these objectives.  After a series of national consultations and workshops, the consultant group was able to prepare these instruments ready for pilot-testing and eventual use in a survey.

Scope of work:

This engagement will be a continuation of the instrument preparation phase during which four main survey questionnaires were formulated in English – one each for single male, single female, married male and married female.  At the same time, a household questionnaire was prepared.  The main survey questionnaires contain questions related to adolescent fertility rates; health service utilization; level of knowledge about HIV-AIDS, Violence Against Women (VAW), family planning, life skills; risk behaviors; and other reproductive health indicators such as Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR) and unmet need for family planning.  On the other hand, the household questionnaire contains entries on household membership, amenities, and access to health insurance.

Specifically the work will involve the initial data collection and the development of other specialized instruments to wit: preparation of an English questionnaire for the Muslim population, and translation of the prepared questionnaires in major dialects.  Data collection will be conducted in two UNFPA project sites that will be agreed later.

Expected Outputs:

1.      Raw data collected from at least two UNFPA project sites, using the English questionnaire;

2.      Final version of the survey instrument for the Muslim youth, and;

3.      Final versions of the four main survey instruments prepared in at least five (5) major dialects.

Duration:

The consultancy services will be completed within four person-months commencing on March 2010.
