HCR/IRQER/2017/SUP/ITB/082 - Supply of Construction Materials and Construction Works in Domiz 1 and Domiz 2 Refugee Camps in Iraq
The office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) invites legally registered and qualified companies to submit their best offer for the Supply of Construction Materials and Construction Works in Domiz 1 and Domiz 2 Refugee Camps in Iraq, to implement the following:
1. Upgrade shelters: 1,200 in Domiz 1 and 300 in Domiz 2
Since the end of 2015, when refugees in KR-I were granted permission to undertake construction in camps, refugee families with the means to do so have upgraded the shelters on their plots. This construction involves removal of the family tent, extension of concrete slabs, construction of side walls and the addition of a sandwich panel roof. UNHCR targets to upgrade 1,200 shelters in Domiz 1 and 300 shelters in Domiz 2 benefiting 7,500 Syrian refugees in both camps.
2. Construct new family plots with upgraded shelters: 150 in Domiz 1
Outside of camps, the situation of many refugees living in host communities has deteriorated as they have exhausted their savings and are unable to find work in KR-I. As a result, many have requested to move to camps because they can no longer pay for food, water, rent, and utilities. Many are living in sub-standard housing, including abandoned buildings, and do not have adequate protection from the elements. UNHCR targets to construct shelter for 150 shelters benefiting 750 Syrian refugees. These new structures will be built from scratch, in accordance with the standards for upgraded shelters.
3. Open channel construction: 6,000m in Domiz 1
Construction of 6,000m of open channel in Domiz 1 will help to improve the drainage of grey water from family plots. Improved drainage will benefit the sanitation conditions in the camp, helping to avoid stagnant water and reducing the risk of transmission of water-borne diseases. This will benefit 31,032 Syrian refugees living in the Domiz 1 camp.
UNHCR looks forward to receiving your Bid and thanks you in advance for your interest in UNHCR procurement opportunities.
