Description
The United Nations Headquarters in New York is seeking a qualified consultancy firm with a strong track record on the topic of private financing for sustainable forest management (SFM) in developing countries. The scope of work will include: A. Developing a full-scale project proposal, including a situation analysis, aimed at increasing the amount of private financing for SFM, including from large-scale institutional investors, in developing countries; B. Assisting in fundraising by identifying potential donors, public, private or non-governmental, for supporting the implementation of the above-mentioned project; and C. Contributing to the implementation of the above-mentioned project by (i) preparing a forest investment manual that will produce practical recommendations to decision-makers on how to increase private financing for SFM based on key success stories; (ii) assisting in implementing these practical recommendations in pilot countries with a view to increase their levels of financing from private sources; and (iii) assist in holding a global event on investing in forests to disseminate lessons learnt. The key deliverables are a forest investment manual aimed at decision-makers in developing countries, a set of measures implemented in pilot countries aimed at increasing private financing for SFM, and a global event on how to invest in SFM in developing countries. This project will be implemented as part of the Global Forest Financing Facilitation Network of the United Nations Forum on Forests and will contribute to the implementation of major global commitments related to forests, in particular the United Nations Forest Instrument and Target 15.b of the Sustainable Development Goals. Project implementation needs to begin as soon as possible and no later than 1 July 2016.
