DEVELOPMENT OF INTERNAL KNOWLEDGE AND LEARNING SYSTEM FOR AMKENI WAKENYA
BACKGROUND
UNDP Kenya and Development Partners have established a Civil Society Democratic Governance Facility under the UNDP Country Programme Action Plan known as Amkeni Wakenya. This Facility, under the Democratic Governance Unit, has an objective to support the country in its efforts to uphold democratic governance, human rights and the rule of law through enhanced empowerment of the people and strengthening of relevant governance institutions. Amkeni Wakenya provides support to civil society organizations working on the demand side of promoting democratic governance, and the protection and promotion of human rights in Kenya and especially the poor and marginalized through grant making, capacity building and learning and knowledge management. It is supported the Embassy of Sweden, the Norwegian Embassy, the Embassy of the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Embassy of Japan and the European Union.
Amkeni is seeking to improve its Knowledge Management System to facilitate efficiency and effectiveness and promote knowledge sharing and learning among its partners.
2.0 PROBLEM STATEMENT
As with any other organization, Amkeni Wakenya has its challenges when it comes to managing knowledge, promoting learning, and embracing change. To pursue its vision of becoming a learning institution and a primary source of governance and governance related knowledge in Kenya, Amkeni is seeking to address these challenges, which range from lack of coherent information system to the overcoming organizational silos which hinder optimum performance.
