Description
United Nations Office in Nairobi on behalf of UN Habitat Mozambique wished to identify vendors for the Irrigation Systems Rehabilitation in Mozambique. The objectives of this project is to rehabilitate and enhance the efficiency and resilience of the irrigation systems in Pyiamanguana and Mandruzi damaged by Cyclone IDAI. This rehabilitation aims to: 1. Restore the functionality 2. Improve the resilience 3. Increase agricultural productivity 4. Empower Local Farmer Associations Purpose The purpose of this rehabilitation project is to ensure that: 1. The irrigation systems can provide adequate and reliable water supply to the entire areas of Pyiamanguana (52 hectares) and Mandruzi (30 hectares of the 79 hectares available). 2. Local farmer associations are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage and maintain these systems efficiently. 3. The infrastructure is built to modern standards, incorporating climate-resilient features to withstand potential future damages from natural disasters. NOTE: All sites selected for the intervention used river water for irrigation purposes. Their operations halted due to the IDAI cyclone and not due to lack of access to water. Therefore, the water supply source, i.e. rivers, are still suitable for use for irrigation purposes. Additionally, the irrigation areas were not increased, i.e. the water demand remains the same and higher water use efficiencies will be achieved by using the new irrigation designs and equipment suggested by the consultants. Expected Results 1. Operational Efficiency 2. Capacity Building and Empowerment 3. Increased Agricultural Output 4 Sustainability and resilience
