Description

Introduction

The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) aims to establish a national citizen-centered digital health solution for the Republic of Mauritius. This ambitious digital transformation programme will encompass the design, configuration and implementation of a set of digital health components across the health system to ensure the provision of core functional capabilities nationally.

Moreover, the MOHW plans to accomplish this important transformation programme by capitalizing on the latest technologies. A key element of this digital shift is the development of an overarching Digital Health Architecture and related artifacts. This will allow the MOHW to identify, define, and implement the required components of a national e-Health ecosystem. Furthermore, it will aid in better preparation for regulating the processing of transactions within the larger digital ecosystem, including Electronic Medical and Patient Records.

The main objective of the e-Health project is to improve the services provided to all citizens across all Government health facilities in Mauritius, including Regional Hospitals, Mediclinics, Area Health Centers, & Community Health Centers. This project also requires the setting up of the appropriate legislation to minimize the risks of new technologies and protect personal digital health data while supporting the advance of Mauritius’ innovative capacity to develop digital systems for health care further.

To achieve the above, the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW)  intends to prepare and enforce a digital health law with supporting priority Regulations, laying the foundation for scaling and sustaining interoperable health information systems and digital health.
