Description

BACKGROUND
1.1. UNICEF South Sudan Country Office is engaged in construction activities for an estimated combined value of
$40million up to 2025. The main donors are AfDB, KfW, GPE, EU, KICA and World Bank.
1.2. For the African Development Bank (AfBD) Grant: Improving Access and Quality of Basic Education project
aims to contribute to increasing access to quality primary education and improve learning outcomes for some of the
most marginalized children in South Sudan, where more than 2.2 million children are out of school.
1.3. The objective of this Improving Access and Quality of Basic Education project is to increase equitable
access for children through the provision of child-friendly infrastructure in four target States, where there is a high
concentration of out of school children and adolescents due to on-going conflict and instability. In addition, the
project will improve the quality of education provided through in and pre-service teacher training and the provision
of essential learning materials.
1.4. This project has a significant component of infrastructure renovation and construction, with an Environmental
and Social (E&S) impact. Within this context, and in line with the requirements of the donor, and the Ministry of
Environment of South Sudan, UNICEF South Sudan Country Office wishes to recruit an Environmental and Social
audit service provider, to assess the Environmental and Social compliance during project implementation.
