Facilitator, Malaria Elimination Workshop
BACKGROUND
WHO and USAID President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) have been supporting malaria-endemic countries in the region to build capacity of malaria programme staff on surveillance, management of malaria field operations, vector control and diagnosis for malaria elimination. Supported by the USAID-PMI, WHO and ACTMalaria are coordinating a capacity building training workshop on malaria elimination. The workshop aims to ensure that the most up-to-date WHO malaria elimination guidance and policy recommendations are shared and adopted by national malaria programmes in the region; and importantly to strengthen knowledge and skills and re-orient perspectives and attitudes required to move towards malaria elimination.
Training material for the workshop will be guided by the WHO malaria elimination training course (2021) and contextualized to include the latest tools and innovations to provide the most impact towards achieving malaria elimination. In line with WHO Guidelines on Malaria Elimination launched in 2022 and current accelerator strategies to eliminate malaria in the Greater Mekong Subregion, the most effective elimination interventions and tools will be shared to support adoption of the malaria elimination training to their needs and context for their subnational counterparts.
PURPOSE/SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE OF THE ACTIVITY
The consultant will lead facilitate the Malaria Elimination Training Workshop to enhance national and sub-national capacity to adopt and implement core interventions for malaria elimination, undertaking sub-national verification, and eventually requesting for WHO certification of malaria free status.
DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES TO BE CARRIED OUT
The Consultant will work under overall supervision of the Responsible Officer at WPRO with guidance from Director ACTMalaria and administrative staff. The Consultant will have the following activities:
- • Develop workshop agenda and content for all training sessions, ensuring the most recent guidance, tools and accelerator strategies to achieve malaria elimination are included;
- • Assist with the identification of resource speakers and co-facilitators and coordinate with each on content for session;
- • Lead and co-facilitate all sessions during the training;
- • Write a final report including overall description and recommendations for future courses.
METHODS TO CARRY OUT THE ACTIVITY
- The consultant will develop the agenda in collaboration with ACTMalaria and WHO for the workshop and develop all training slides and content for sessions, ensuring WHO guidance, recommended tools and accelerator strategies are included;
- He/she will assist to identify resource speakers and co-facilitators and work closely with team of facilitators to ensure congruency of material.
- He/she will facilitate and co-facilitate sessions alone or with resource speakers and co-facilitators;
- He/she will write a final report, providing feedback on the process and recommendations for future courses.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION
Post graduate degree in Heath, Tropical Medicine, Entomology or other related areas
EXPERIENCE
- • Proven expertise and experience in conducting training and capacity building on malaria elimination
- • Experience in working with WHO WPR malaria-endemic countries
TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- • Good organizational and interpersonal skills
- • Knowledgeable in WHO guidance for malaria and other communicable diseases
LANGUAGES
- • Proficiency in written and spoken English
