TSA for scoping review of oral health promotion among older adults
BACKGROUND
The global population is rapidly ageing. There are more than 700 million people aged 65 years and over in 2019, and this number is expected to double by 2050. Oral health is a critical component for healthy ageing. It is a foundation of quality of life, enables us to eat, communicate, and breathe. Moreover, oral health is closely associated with NCDs, and contributes to preventing frailty.
However, the burden of oral diseases is high that is affecting 3.5 million population, and 26% of older adults aged 65-89 years old were estimated to have no teeth globally. Despite the importance of oral health for older adults, there is a lack of evidence on the effective of oral health promotion for older adults which can be provided in primary health care settings. This scoping review aims to identify the characteristics of effective oral health promotion activities for older adults, identify knowledge gaps, and develop and confirm the subsequent systematic review question.
