UNDP/GEF Namibia Energy Efficiency Programme in Buildings (NEEP) ANNUAL NATIONAL ENERGY EFFICIENCY SURVEY - Windhoek, NAMIBIA
Namibia is a large energy importer and imports up to 56% of its electricity needs from the SADC region. The current power deficit being experienced by Namibia’s main suppliers and a subsequent eminent disruption to the country’s power supplies is a major threat to the current country’s steady economic growth. The Government of Namibia is therefore exploring ways of enhancing power supply and promoting efficient use of available electricity resources to avert economic disruption. This is the entry point for the NEEP project, which seeks to encourage energy efficient technologies and practices, mainly in the commercial and residential building sector.
The purpose of the Annual National Survey on Energy Efficiency in Buildings is, therefore, to provide a basis for evaluating a variety of initiatives that focus on transforming building practices and energy efficiency in new and existing residential and non-residential buildings, specifically for targeted intervention. The information, generated from energy demand, consumption and expenditure in the different building sector categories, would assist the NEEP project in determining the level of market penetration of EE technologies and practices in buildings.
