Upcoming UNFPA Bid for Reproductive

Health Commodities

 

 This is an advance notification that UNFPA will conduct a bid for the following reproductive health commodities in the first half of 2009:

 

1. Oral hormonal contraceptives

- ethinylestradiol + levonorgestrel, tablet 30 micrograms + 150 micrograms

- levonorgestrel, tablet 30 micrograms

- levonorgestrel, tablet 750 micrograms (pack of two); 1.5 mg (pack of one)

 

2. Injectable hormonal contraceptives

- medroxyprogesterone acetate, depot injection 150 mg/ml, in 1-ml vial

- medroxyprogesterone acetate + estradiol cypronate, injection 25 mg + 5 mg

3. Implantable contraceptives

- two-rod levonorgestrel-releasing implant, each rod containing 75 mg of levonorgestrel (150 mg in total)

 

Goods must be supplied by World Health Organization (WHO) Prequalified and/or Stringent Regulatory Authority (SRA) approved facilities.

Pharmaceutical products offered must meet the requirements recommended by WHO, and are manufactured in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

 

All products offered must have submitted documents for WHO prequalification evaluation by the bid deadline, so we encourage suppliers to do so as early as possible

There is a fast track process in WHO pre-qualification for innovators’ products. (See:

Countries that participate in the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) are considered as SRAs.

 

The bid will be open to primary manufacturers, or their authorized representatives, of the pharmaceutical products described, which are registered in the country where they are produced.

 

Goods are destined for many countries around the world, where UNFPA and its partners conduct reproductive health programs.

The bid will also require completion of a UN Pharmaceutical Questionnaire, with accompanying documents for each item formulation bid.

Estimated timing of the bid will be April, 2009, and the bid will be announced on UNGM. At the present, no further information is available.
