Enhancing Climate Resilience of the Vulnerable Communities and Ecosystems in Somalia – Climate Change Adaptation Modules for University Level Education

Brief Description of the Required Services

Develop Climate Change Adaptation Modules for University Level Education  (under-graduate and post-graduate)

 

A climate module, with sector-focused sub-modules, is to be developed and integrated into the curriculum of universities offering educational degrees on environment, natural resources, water resources, public planning and administration, agriculture, etc. The modules will include lessons on basics of climate change, Ecosystem based Adaptation (EbA), sectoral impacts, integrated land and water management principles, and international best practices on climate adaptation. As part of the assignment, the sub-modules will be designed in collaboration with the faculty of selected universities from South Central, Puntland and Somaliland.  

 

List and Description of Expected Outputs to be Delivered

  1. Undertake scoping study and assess the existing status of environment or climate change subjects/modules in Universities of Somalia (South and Central, Puntland, Somaliland)
  2. Prepare gaps and opportunities report to integrate environment and climate change aspects in the universities curriculum
  3. Develop model curriculum for undergraduate and post-graduate levels studies in Somali and English languages for the approval of Federal Government and Regional Governments
  4. Undertake training of Universities teaching staff (30 in total) to impart the model curriculum to the undergraduate and post-graduate levels.

Person to Supervise the Work/Performance of the Service Provider

The institution selected for undertaking the assignment will directly report to the UNDP Somalia, with additional reporting to the office of the GEF Operational Focal Point. All day-t0-day guidance and supervision role will be with the Project Manager, Environment and Energy, Poverty Reduction and Environment Protection Programme (PREP) of UNDP-Somalia.
