Procurement, Delivery, Installation and Calibration of Hydrological Equipment, including Training
The main objective of the project is to strengthen the weather, climate and hydrological monitoring capabilities, early warning systems and delivery of available information for responding to extreme weather and planning adaptation to climate change in Malawi. Within this project the Department of
Water Resources is responsible for the monitoring and forecasting of hydrology in the seven identified districts. For this purpose the Department has conducted an assessment and identified sites for installation of Automatic Hydrological Stations and Data Collection Platforms. A hydrological observation network and telemetry system will be established through the supply and installation of 10 Automatic Hydrological Stations (AHSs) in 7 disaster prone districts, namely Karonga, Salima, Nkhota-kota, Rumphi, Nkhata-bay, Dedza and Phalombe. The System will include a Central Base Station located at the headquarters in Lilongwe.
