Provision of Hangar Canvas to UNSOS in Somalia

The United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) intends to establish a Local System Contract for the Provision of Canvas for a 46.2m by 28.5m by 15m hangar. The contract will be for an intial period of one (1) year with an option to renew for two (2) additional one year periods. The canvas should meet the following requirements: Canvas Material Requirements: The Hangar Canvas shall be designed to be of sturdy material, UV and tear resistant and of high tensile strength capable of withstanding live wind load and pressures. The Hangar canvas shall satisfy all certifications and codes as internationally recognised for such application as classified for both its purpose and the weather conditions in Baledogle and Somalia at large (semi-arid, harsh weather, high gusts of wind and high temperatures resulting in expansion and cooling and salty dust plumes). • Type: High tensile PVC coated polyester or equivalent engineered fabric. • Minimum Tensile Strength: 4000–5000 N/5cm (warp/weft). • Tear Strength: ≥ 600 N. • Weight: 650–900 g/m² depending on design. • UV Resistance: Minimum 5–10 years rated. • Fire Retardancy: Compliant with NFPA 701, EN 13501 1, or equivalent. • Temperature Resistance: −30°C to +70°C. • Color: As specified (typically white or light grey for heat reflection). • Finish: Lacquered, anti fungal, anti mildew, and dirt repellent. Structural Compatibility: • Canvas must be custom fabricated to match the parabolic curvature. • Reinforced edges with welded hems and integrated tensioning pockets. • Stainless steel or galvanized steel tensioning cables. • Pre installed grommets, keder tracks, or bolt rope systems depending on design. Fastening and Tensioning Systems: • High strength ratchet tensioners or turnbuckles. • Stainless steel cable clamps and shackles. • Aluminium or galvanized steel keder rails. • Anchor plates and brackets designed for the hangar’s load requirements. Environmental and Load Requirements: For semi-arid, coastal, and windy zones like it is the case in Somalia, a canvas to be installed MUST withstand: ● High solar UV tolerance and resistance ● Strong seasonal winds (≥ 80–120 km/h gusts)-require high tear resistance & tensile strength. ● Salty air (coastal): this accelerates fabric and metal corrosion necessitating the use of PVC/PVDF coating for protection. ● Dust abrasion: Thus, the need for smooth, lacquered coating to shed dust and resist wear. ● Temperature swings: Heavy weight tent fabric is required to minimise expansion/contraction that leads to loosening and sagging over time. ● Warranty: Minimum 5-year warranty for fabric material (as some hangar fabric suppliers offer). Specific Requirements/Information Companies interested in receiving the solicitation documents are requested to submit a written Expression of Interest (EOI) and to include the following informations: 1. Companies responding to this EOI must demostrate previous experience in undertaking similar projects. 2. Companies must be registered in UNGM. This EOI does not constitute a solicitation.
