Description

The WHO Kiribati Office seeks qualified, eligible, and competent proposers for the Supply and Installation of Solar Power Systems for nine selected outer island healthcare facilities in Kiribati. The primary goal is to enhance healthcare facilities by installing solar power systems that comply with modern safety standards and improve patient care.


Scope of Work

The contractor shall provide all necessary materials, transport, labor, and expertise to complete the following:

  1. Supply and installation of a 10 kVA (or equivalent) solar energy system at:

    • Banaba Health Centre, Banaba Island.
  2. Supply and installation of 5 kVA (or equivalent) solar energy systems at:

    • Aiaki Clinic – Onotoa Island
    • Tabuarorae Clinic – Onotoa Island
    • Otoae Clinic – Onotoa Island
    • Tekatana Clinic – Onotoa Island
    • Namon Clinic – Beru Island
    • Aonnati Clinic – Beru Island
    • Poland Clinic – Kiritimati Island
    • Tabwakea Clinic – Kiritimati Island
  3. Repair and replace faulty electrical systems (wiring, switchboards, switches, powerpoints, ceiling fans, etc.).

  4. Conduct user training on maintenance and troubleshooting of the solar system.

  5. Submit a comprehensive project completion report.


Key Requirements

  • Engage in initial discussions with WHO Country Office and MOE team to confirm requirements and timelines.
  • Complete and submit WHO-provided environmental and social safeguards documents before work begins.
  • Prepare and submit a detailed work plan, including procurement, shipping, and on-site schedules.
  • Arrange transportation of all materials and equipment from Tarawa to designated islands.
  • Liaise with WHO Climate Change and Health Project Engineer or Project Coordination Officer prior to work.
  • Ensure quality control and compliance with WHO standards throughout the project.
  • Facilitate final inspection and commissioning with MISE and/or MHMS representatives.
  • Ensure full compliance with WHO environmental and social safeguards during all phases.

Place of Performance

Healthcare facilities on Onotoa Island, Beru Island, Kiritimati Island, and Banaba Island.
