Why This Matters
The United Nations is one of the world’s largest buyers, with procurement volumes reaching $25.7 billion in 2024. These purchases impact health, education, protection, food security, decent work, constructions and infrastructures, and inclusion globally. Sustainable procurement is central to achieving SDG 12.7, which promotes responsible consumption and production. UN agencies now require procurement practices that integrate environmental, social, and economic sustainability across the entire supply chain.
