Description
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a specialized agency of the United Nations based in Rome, Italy, hereby solicits proposals for the Provision of a study on the Digitalization of Remittances in Rural and Peri-Urban Areas of Morocco and Key European Corridors. Since 2006, IFAD has played a pioneering role in remittance and diaspora investment through its Financing Facility for Remittances (FFR), establishing itself as the only international actor focusing primarily on rural areas. Through the FFR, IFAD has launched over 60 innovative initiatives across more than 50 countries, specifically designed to improve access to and utilization of remittance flows while mobilizing diaspora capital for development. IFAD partnered with the European Union in 2019 to launch PRIME Africa, a program that successfully reduced transfer costs and enhanced financial inclusion across seven African countries including Morocco. The current Digit Remit Morocco project expands these efforts by maximizing the developmental impact of remittances on rural communities, with particular focus on vulnerable groups such as women, youth, and migrant families to maximize the impact of remittances on rural development and financial inclusion in Morocco. As part of the DigitRemit-Morocco program co-financed by the European Union, and in collaboration with Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM), the FFR is launching a study on the drivers of adoption of digital money transfer services in Morocco. This study aims to deepen understanding of current challenges, analyse the barriers and opportunities linked to the use of payment accounts and mobile wallets for remittances in the Moroccan context, with a particular focus on rural, peri-urban areas and Moroccan diaspora communities. Overall Objective To develop strategic and operational recommendations to stimulate and accelerate the adoption of digital solutions that are tailored to the specific needs of remittance recipients, with the goal of promoting the use of formal savings and investment products.
