Description
The United Nations (UN) Secretariat has a continuous requirement for freight forwarding services for the movement of UN cargo worldwide. The freight forwarding services include the movement of UN cargo by surface (sea, road, rail) and air, originating from suppliers of goods, UN Entity locations and Troop/Police Contributing Countries. The destination of shipments is typically to UN offices and Peacekeeping and Political Missions, located around the world.
(i) Order expediting and follow up, transport, freight forwarding and related services from the point of origin to the destination as specified in the forwarding/shipping instructions;
(ii) Management of the entire transport chain, logistic functions and related activities from the points of origin to the destinations, including all elements of the various modes of transport up to and including delivery to the pre-defined destination;
(iii) Provision of equipment, facilities, qualified personnel, expertise and other means necessary to perform the transport, freight forwarding and related services in accordance with best commercial practices;
(iv) Import and export custom formalities and local delivery;
(v) Consolidation, export packing, palletizing, shrink-wrapping and marking/labeling of products for shipments from suppliers of goods, UN Entities, and Contingent location;
(vi) Surface and/or airfreight shipment of dangerous goods (DG) cargo (excluding weapons and ammunition);
(vii) Capability and readiness to comply with integration with the UN SAP Transport Management Module and the Carrier Collaboration Portal, and
(viii) Provision of quarterly data linking on Purchase Orders, including route details, cargo volumes and modes of transport.
The UN Secretariat will issue a solicitation with the aim of establishing multiple long-term framework agreements with freight forwarders for the provision of such services. The award of task orders for specific movement requirements will be based on a secondary bidding process.
Among other evaluation requirements, to be considered eligible for award of a framework agreement for freight forwarding services, vendors must have the capacity and ability to transport UN cargo to at least 60% of approximately 7,000 routes, which will be specified in the solicitation documents.
Specific Requirements/Information
Vendors that are suspended and/or under procurement prohibition with the UN Secretariat or other entities of the UN System will not be invited to participate in the solicitation.
Vendors are required to be registered at the Basic Level with the UN Secretariat in the United Nations Global Marketplace to be invited to participate in the upcoming solicitation.
Registration at Level 2 will be required for eligibility for contract award. The UN Secretariat strongly recommends interested vendors to apply for registration at Level 2 as soon as possible.
