Operational Management and Maintenance of Sioufi Garden
Sioufi Garden (SG) is a landmark and a major green park, not only for the residential neighborhood where it is located but for all Beirut and beyond. It is believed to have played a significant role in shaping the Sioufi area’s urbanization and development. SG.has been open and operational under the general governance of the Municipality of Beirut (MoB) since the 1970s. However, in April 2019, it was closed for renovation, and a contractor was appointed to undertake rehabilitation works based on a design previously approved by the relevant official authorities. These rehabilitation works were halted in October 2019, primarily due to financial constraints and the contract has since been annulled.
Currently, UNOPS is undertaking the rehabilitation works at Sioufi Garden, with the project expected to be completed by July 2025, ensuring the park is restored as a vibrant and accessible green space for the community.
SG features a level drop of 23 meters between its northern and southern ends. Covering approximately 18,000 square meters, it stands as one of the largest green spaces in the area and is recognized as an important public space in Beirut. At street level in the Sioufi neighborhood, the garden overlooks a valley extending towards the Beirut River and connects to a street in the Corniche El Nahr neighborhood, adjacent to the Jisr El Wati Courts. Given its elevation, abundant greenery, and surrounding residential areas, primarily the Sioufi and Achrafieh neighborhoods, the garden offers a unique retreat from traffic, air, and noise pollution. Access to the garden is available by car and on foot from the northern side, with pavements leading to entrance gates and street parking.
