Description

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Somalia would like to invite registered Local Non-Governmental Organizations (LNGOs) and Somali National Institutions (CBOs, CSOs, Training Institutions, Research Institutions, Community Management Committees, Consultancy Firms, and related institutions) to submit their Expression of Interest (EOI) for prequalification in the implementation of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Project in all regions of Somalia.
The UNDP Gender Programme recognizes the importance of actively involving state actors, the community and local authorities to promote gender equality and women’s rights. Maximizing engagement with communities will ensure continuity and ownership, creating a balance between institution building and community/civil society empowerment.
The aim of this pre-qualification process is to allow UNDP to compile a roster of gender-focused national institutions throughout Somalia, with an understanding of their areas of technical experience, financial and managerial capability, expertise of staff and consultants, and regional experience.
The UNDP Gender Programme will engage in complementary and mutually beneficial partnership with selected institutions to implement some components of the project. These include;
a)       Community conversations and awareness-raising on gender equality, women’s rights and peace building (from an Islamic perspective), working with religious leaders, clan and traditional elders, youth and media.
b)       Networking and strengthening of women’s caucuses for gender equality advocacy at the local levels
c)        Gender training for media professionals and establishment of media consultative forums on gender
d)       Identifying and building the capacity of women candidates for political offices to run election campaigns and develop public life skills.
e)       Community level awareness raising and inter-generational dialogue on FGM: including FGM practitioners and young women.
f)        Working with male and female youth to address SGBV from a preventative perspective
g)       Research development on women’s social and economic rights; especially exploring the legal frameworks
