Description

The Evaluation will review the status of existing Medicinal Plants Conservation Areas (MPCAs) across the country to look at the efficacy of MPCAs as an approach to in-situ conservation of medicinal plants; identify and document good practices on management of these MPCAs, mainstreaming of the MPCAs in the current working of the forest departments and thereafter design a comprehensive strategy for management of MPCAs in India. This strategy will not only be used to replicate the model in other States of the country but would also be used for sharing good practices related to MPCAs at the global level.

UNDP wants the team to look at MPCAs in the context of a larger management unit using a landscape approach in management of these areas. The team should also identify different models of governance of MPCAs as part of this assignment especially when these are established in forest areas that fall under different legal categories.
