REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL - A STUDY OF ONLINE HATE SPEECH ON SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS IN SRI LANKA (RFP/PBF/2308/46)

Sri Lanka continues to face challenges on the path to achieving the sustainable development goals and furthering social cohesion. The country is emerging from its worst economic crisis since independence in 1948. As the cost of living remains high and resource competition has increased. This may deepen existing social fault lines, elevating contestation and discontent. Recent evidence suggests that the spread of hate speech and misinformation through online and offline methods continues to spark tensions between the country’s multiple religious and ethnic groups and other social divides.

In this regard UNDP invites potential service providers to submit their proposals to conduct a study of online hate speech on social media platforms in Sri Lanka.
