Retreat Facilitator
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
The Division of Health System and Services (DHS) is organizing its annual planning retreat in Subic, Philippines from 15-16 December 2022. The division will require an experienced Retreat Facilitator with expertise in organizational development and team building to plan and conduct a strategic retreat for the staff of DHS. The Retreat Facilitator will be expected to contribute to the planning and facilitation of virtual preparatory sessions and an in-person two-day retreat.
OBJECTIVES
The overarching objectives of the retreat are:
a. To better understand, plan for, and report the impact we have at country level when serving member states, and to explore how we can strengthen our theory of change that links our activities to Impact, to maximise country impact when serving member states;
b. To further strengthen the resilience, well-being and team working within DHS, and to create a positive environment and respectful workplace culture that enables us all to deliver together and thrive individually.
DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES TO BE CARRIED OUT
- • Assist in designing a retreat agenda to address the objectives and needs as outlined above which will include the retreat programme, designing the format and set-up and facilitation of the retreat, breakout meetings and focus group discussions;
- • Facilitate a productive and effective in-person two-day retreat in order to achieve its stated objectives;
- • Prepare a final report of the retreat, including decisions made, action items and issues that need further discussion.
METHODS TO CARRY OUT THE ACTIVITY
- • Assist the design and develop the agenda of the Retreat, in consultation with the Senior Team and based on preliminary findings from initial meetings with division staff.
- • Develop a detailed proposal of the exercises, in close consultation with the DHS Retreat committee, using effective participatory methodologies and innovative facilitation techniques to stimulate interaction among the participants;
- • Documentation of the outputs from the retreat proceedings
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT
Expertise:
- • A good understanding of the organization, its mandates, and structure.
- • Has technical knowledge of a theory of change, including what one is, how to develop one and most importantly knows how to ask the right questions so that the theory of change created pulls together all the important assumptions around how to are going to create change.
- • Has expertise in organisational development including supporting complex organisations to develop positive, respectful workplace cultures where staff can thrive and deliver in an environment that supports resilience and well-being
- • Minimum 10 years of experience in facilitating meetings or workshops for other international or regional development organizations.
- • Experience in facilitating virtual and hybrid retreats or similar events is a plus
- • Expertise in designing and implementing a wide range of interactive methods to strengthen teams and improve communication in the workplace
- • Culture sensitivity and experience moderating meetings of culturally diverse and international groups.
- • Evidence of ability to give and receive feedback in a productive manner that promotes continual growth
- • Excellent and proven writing and documentation skills.
Note: English will be the language of the Retreat.

- • Includes all required elements
- • Demonstrates experience, understanding and success with organizations of similar size and scope
- • Proposed approach and timeline aligned with the TOR objectives and schedule
- • Cost is competitive and commensurate with effort
