Consultancy Services on “Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Design and Development Project”

The Ministry of Transport (MOT) in Kingdome of Saudi Arabia embarked on developing ITS systems on its road network to better address Travel and Traffic Management as well as Emergency Management on the highway network. 

An ITS Master Plan has been prepared for the Kingdom which sets out principle ITS standards for implementation of ITS on the Kingdom’s highways. Further MOT is currently implementing the Highway Traffic Management System (HTMS) for the City of Riyadh and has appraised the needs for ITS on the national highway network. This appraisal resulted in a number of priority projects of which ITS for the Highway 15 Makkah – Madinah, for the Highway 40 Makkah – Jeddah, and the Highway Traffic Management System for the Dammam / Dhahran / Al Khobar city area shall be designed under this project. Further MOT recognizes that ITS applications are complex and systems involving advanced information technology and system engineering, therefore MOT also wants to employ technical knowledge to assist in implementing ITS applications such as the Riyadh Highway Traffic Management System and to develop associated administrative and managerial capacities.
