ICCA Africa RCA Congress in Rwanda July 2022
Objectives for the Call for Proposals:
In line with the initiative, the ICCA Consortium, together with other partners currently actively collaborate to implement the ICCA Global Support Initiative (in short, GSI).
A strategic meeting among members, honorary members and partner communities is scheduled to occur as part of the ICCA Consortium General Assembly meeting to be held in Kigali, Rwanda, in July 2022 back-to-back with the first Africa Protected and Conserved Areas Congress (https://apacongress.africa/). Representatives from approximately fifteen countries at the regional level will be participating in the ICCA Consortium regional assembly together with the Africa Protected and Conserved Areas Congress.
The ICCA Consortium is expected to hold a Regional Assembly for Africa and will enable members and partners to share and learn from each other’s experiences over the last years, both with respect to the Global ICCA Support Initiative delivered through the UNDP/GEF SGP, as well as more broadly. Representatives will discuss the ICCA Consortium regionalization process to identify best mechanisms and ways for the Africa Regional Network, ensuring a stronger network with clearly defined strategic plan, partnerships and programmes at the global level.
To this end, SGP is calling for proposals from competent not-for-profit organisations preferably based in Rwanda to ‘Provide administrative/logistical support and follow-up actions for the organisation of the ICCA Consortium Regional assembly and for Africa’ to take place in Kigali in July 2022.
The specific objectives:
1. Management and administration of the ICCA Consortium Regional Assembly for Africa meeting to be held in Kigali, Rwanda, in July 2022. The ICCA Consortium regional assembly is expected to include (i) the participation of approximatively 20-25 participants (local, national, and regional) to share and learn from each other’s experiences over the last three years; as well as (ii) to contribute to inputs towards a potential third phase of the Global ICCA Support Initiative (GSI) financed by the German Federal Ministry of the Environment (BMU) and delivered by the UNDP-implemented GEF Small Grants Programme at the global level.
2. Conduct follow-up actions between participating countries attending the workshop. Follow-up actions, to be discussed at the meeting, are expected to include: (i) bilateral exchanges within Africa between NGOs, CBOs and indigenous peoples working in support of ICCAs in target countries; (ii) strengthening of the Global ICCA Consortium regionalisation process; and (iii) capacity-building and networking at the regional level between national ICCA Peer Review mechanisms and/or working groups.
Grant funding available for the activity is up to a maximum value of US $35,000.
