Description
DESCRIPTION OF REQUIREMENTS: The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) on behalf of UN-Habitat (Iraq) is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from competent and qualified companies for the establishment of Children Playground Area in Al-Yarmouk Park, Mosul, Nineveh Governorate, Iraq. Objectives and requirements: The rehabilitation Al-Yarmouk park is complementary to the set of integrated urban recovery projects and activities that UN-Habitat is implementing in Mosul, Nineveh Governorate, aimed at restoring essential public services disrupted by war and conflict and supporting the sustainable return of IDPs. Priority projects in this area are being identified in consultation with the local authorities and the community. Their implementation is being phased and implemented through local contractors, engaged in adherence to UN-compliant procurement policies and procedures, which entails the issuance of competitive construction tenders. Well-equipped and safe open-air playgrounds are critical for the development of toddlers, children and youth’s emotional, social and creative thinking skills that they will need to grow and develop. It allows them to engage with their surrounding environment and with others members of their community in a fun context. Also, it enables them to explore ideas and different ways to behave, testing their boundaries and growing in the process. Physical activities play an important role in societies and offer a powerful tool to strengthen social ties and build networks, overcome mistrust, and reach across political divides and ethnic/religious differences. Interactive fitness activities are particularly effective for children and youth that have grown up in an environment of intolerance and conflict. Through the installation of a set of composite playgrounds in Yarmouk Park – including recreation equipment for children with disabilities – UN-Habitat aims to promote open-air and interactive activities among boys and girls that have lived through periods of insecurity, years of harsh ISIL ruling and/or displacement, as a means to support the recovery, reconciliation and sustainable return of the inhabitants of Mosul. Additional details, specifications and terms of reference shall be provided in the tender document to be issued subsequent to this EOI
