Description
General Background
For UN75, the DPPA Communications Team (Office of the Under-Secretary-General) and the Innovation
Cell (Policy and Mediation Division) is planning to curate a dialogue series “Talking Peace” on local
peacemaking and conflict prevention. The aim of the series is for local communities to share with the DPPA
what conflict prevention means to them and how they envision its future. Talking Peace, is part of a trio of
outreach efforts of DPPA for UN75 that also include the Work in Peace and Futuring Peace programmes.
Based on the prioritizing of DPPA-relevant regions, the dialogues will take place in five countries:
Afghanistan, Bolivia, Iraq, Rwanda and Uganda.
Deliverables
1. A 10-part dialogue series consisting of ten virtual connections of approximately 60-90 minutes, held
during Sep-Nov 2020, bringing together four to eight participants from five communities around the
world where DPPA is making a difference. These dialogues will be structured as conversations with
community members who are involved in local peacebuilding efforts and will include thematic topics
including: community-based conflict mediation and prevention; women and youth in peace and
security; and climate trends.
2. Two tentpole events of longer duration (around 3 hours) intended to engage a broader audience in
the selected geographies and generate broader publicity and engagement. These tentpole events
may include: a speculative design workshop on the future of peacemaking, a series of creative
performances that lie at the intersection of art and peace, and conversations with UN officials and
local community members. Awareness in the field of the events and conversations will be amplified
with the help of local DPPA SPMs.
3. Twelve social media assets including text and images to promote upcoming events or guests, the
series as a whole, and/or featuring highlight moments from completed events
4. One three-minute video consisting of highlights of conversations and event details, to be distributed
part-way through the series in order to generate interest and support.
5. An interactive web platform to serve as a content repository of the conversations and event series. It
can include the following features and functionality:
