The purpose of this consultancy is to support the Government of Sri Lanka in identifying environmental health policy priorities, through strengthened evidence generation and partner coordination. The scope of the consultancy would include supporting the Government to carry out an in-depth country assessment on selected environmental hazards and risk factors, including exposure to lead, and their impact on children in Sri Lanka. 1. Conduct a desk review on children's environmental exposures including lead and specifically identify risks factors and produce evidence on the risk of vulnerable children exposed to environmental risk factors 2. Review existing policy regulations and controlling measures 3. Assess blood in children and women in reproductive age for excess lead and two other selected heavy metals in children, especially those living in vulnerable areas and living with identified risk factors. 4. Assess the lead levels in selected materials in the high-risk areas. 5. Capacity needs assessment and develop a plan to provide health workers and managers on training related to environmental health. 6. Conduct dissemination and advocacy workshops The Environmental and Occupational Health Directorate of the Ministry of Health will implement this project in close coordination with other relevant government partners, including the Ministry of Environment, Central Environmental Authority, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Industries, Consumer Affairs Authority of Sri Lanka, Perinatal Society of Sri Lanka, Ministry of Children and Women's Affairs, Local Authorities, UN agencies (WHO, UNICEF, ILO), and relevant local and international organizations.
