Description

Under the overall authority of the Director of the Kabul Office and direct supervision of the Head of Culture Unit, within the framework of UNESCO’s activities for the UNESCO / Italian Funds in Trust Project, ‘Heritage Conservation, Development and Coordination Project for Afghanistan, the contractor shall:

  • In close cooperation with UNESCO’s hired conservation firm, assist the Afghan authorities to confirm the presence and types of cultural heritage in the areas, which are not yet investigated for the long-term preservation of the Outstanding Universal Value of the Bamiyan site, and to determine the extended boundaries from their present position;
  • Remove the debris at the entrance of the three large caves at the northern slopes, which are connected by tunnels and which provided a tunnel access to the defense system of the city;
  • Based on an overall rehabilitation plan of Shar-I Gholgholah which shall be provided by UNESCO, carry out conservation measures and treatments for buildings G11, G10, G12 (site plan attached) to provide a better understanding of the historic eastern slopes connected with the site;
  • Carry out conservation measures for the towers at the eastern slopes and walls on top of the west-eastern ridge;
  • Stabilize and conserve the fortresses at the southern slopes should have additional stabilization and conservation;
  • Provide additional conservation measures for G9, G13, G17, G19, G23, G28 (site plan attached) which have been treated last year for basic conservation measures.
  • Design and provide a visitor pathway according to the ancient pavements, in order to provide a safe visitor access to the mentioned caves
