Description
Duration: 26 working days, starting 15 August 2025 Location: Kenya The International Labour Organization (ILO), through its PROSPECTS programme and in alignment with Recommendation No. 204, is supporting Kenya’s efforts to transition informal enterprises into the formal economy. To this end, the ILO seeks a national consultant to adapt and roll out its Formalize Your Business training module, tailored to the Kenyan context. The consultant will be responsible for adapting Part II of the learner’s manual using Kenya-specific formalization procedures, revising the trainer’s guide based on the updated manual, and conducting Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions using the finalized materials. Key activities will include reviewing existing materials and proposing a structure for Part II of the learner’s manual, adapting the content to reflect Kenya’s registration and compliance procedures, developing a glossary of technical terms, and revising the trainer’s guide to include session plans and evaluation tools. The consultant will also prepare and deliver ToT sessions for two cohorts, ensuring the training is aligned with the ILO’s Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) methodology and is accessible to informal entrepreneurs with basic literacy and numeracy skills. Expected deliverables include a finalized learner’s manual tailored to Kenya, a revised trainer’s guide, and a comprehensive report on the ToT workshops. The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the ILO-PROSPECTS Programme Manager in Kenya and receive technical guidance from ILO specialists on informality and the Kenya PROSPECTS thematic lead. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in small business development and formalization in Kenya, preferably hold SIYB Master Trainer certification, and demonstrate expertise in training design and facilitation.
