Description
A Fellowship in the United Nations System is a specially tailored or selected training activity that provides a stipend to a qualified individual (a fellow) for the purpose of fulfilling special learning objectives; such training, which may be of a duration from 30 days to 2 years and which takes place in the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva Switzerland. At present OHCHR receives approximately 100 fellows per year from all over the world. United Nations is obliged to provide medical insurance to the fellows. International University UN Volunteers (UNVs) are UN non-staff personnel and their assignments are governed by the conditions of service applicable to UNVs (attached herewith). They must be between 18 and 26 years of age throughout their entire duration of service (even if this service is spread over multiple UN Youth Volunteer assignments). The age limit of 26 years old is not fixed and could move through the years. The insurer needs to be flexible and should adapt the solution during the contract period, if necessary. For international University Volunteers, the duration is three to six months. The cumulative period of service is not to exceed six months. UNOG, on behalf of OHCHR, is seeking for expressions of interest from insurance companies, for the provision of health insurance to cover the Fellows and the UNvs.
