HQ25NF230_EOI for Long Term Agreements (LTAs) for the provision of Climate Services and Early Warning Messaging ahead of predicted extreme weather hazards
The WFP Climate and Resilience service seeks to enter into Long Term Agreements with agencies withcapacity and experience in building capacity of governments (meteorology departments, ministry ofagriculture and national disaster management agencies), partners and first/last mile populationsmost at risk in the agri-food value chains in climate services, early warning development anddissemination. Climate extremes, including droughts, floods, cyclones/storms, among are keydrivers of food insecurity. Extreme climate events also impact nutrition, livestock, crops, landdegradation, and food supplies, affecting people’s lives and livelihoods. More than 80 percent of theworld’s food-insecure people live in countries prone to natural hazards in degraded environments. The climate crisis is compounding drivers of food insecurity, including conflict and economic shocks. To successfully manage these intersecting issues, disaster risk management and humanitarianresponse systems need to evolve from crisis response to forward-looking risk management, closelylinked to climate science and climate services. The impact of climate extremes can be reduced whenreliable climate observations and forecasts are translated into actionable climate services and earlywarning messages geared towards more informed decision-making to support the most at-riskcommunities. One in three people in the world are yet to be covered by early warning and climateadvisories to help protect their lives and livelihoods ahead of predicted extreme climate hazards.
WFP invites eligible suppliers to express their interest in providing the requested service for the provision of Climate Services and Early Warning Messaging.
