Provision of CQI/IRCA ISO 22000 Lead Auditor Course in Myanmar
The project for Myanmar - Upgrading horticulture supply and sustainable tourism to develop business linkages - aims at improving the economic situation in the Inle Lake (Shan State, Myanmar) area through the upgrade of the horticulture supply capacity and the development of sustainable tourism. Funded by the SECO Trust Fund, it is implemented by a cluster of four UN agencies gathered in the UN Trade Cluster (ITC, ILO, UNCTAD and UNIDO), through the establishment of value chains leading to income generation and employment creation.
Within this framework, ITC is assisting the Inle Lake area in gaining its position as a touristic destination. Through the design and application of a new branding strategy, the enhancement and promotion of products and services of the Inle Lake inbound tour operators, and the alignment of tourism goods and services to the industry requirements (especially in quality and food safety), the tourism sector will reach a new market positioning in sustainable and inclusive tourism. It will result in an increase in and stabilization of business opportunities for tourism actors.
The project will organize an activity to provide training on ISO 22000 lead auditor courses for the Trainer cum Counsellors (TcCs) to benefit the SMEs in terms of food safety management system (FSMS) implementation and compliance with the ISO 22000 standard which is a widely recognized all over the world.
The TcCs are providing technical support on documentation and implementation of food safety management systems in the hospitality sector. Currently, there are only a limited number of certified ISO 22000 lead auditors are available to provide support to the food business operations in the Southern Shan State of Myanmar.
In this context, the project will support the TcCs to widen and strengthen their capacity in terms of auditing food safety management systems (FSMS) with the following objectives.
- To develop a group of qualified and certified ISO 22000 lead auditors in the southern Shan State of Myanmar
- To consolidate the expertise of the TcCs and contribute to the continual improvement of the businesses in the catering and hospitality sectors.
- To grasp the key principles and practices of effective FSMS audits in line with ISO 22000, and ISO 19011 'Guidelines for auditing management systems’
