Upgrade of 660 WASH Facilities and Construction of 60 Sanitation Units in Domiz 1 Refugee Camp in Dohuk, Iraq
Domiz camp was established and hosts Syrian refugees since inception in April 2012. The camp has expanded and to date, there are 44,811 refugees residing in the camps (Domiz 1 and Domiz 2).
Since 2014, UNHCR has improved WASH facilities for the refugees living in the camp with the goal of long-term solutions and having permanent structures.For this scope of work, UNHCR’s objective is to ensure the dignity of the refugees through construction and upgrading of WASH facilities in Domiz 1 camp. The project aims to also separate grey and black water to decrease number of desludging. UNHCR plans to upgrade 660 combined units of latrines and showers inside Domiz 1 refugee camp for the use of families. This number comprises 600 latrines (cash for work approach) and 60 latrines for disable people (contractor built).
