Participatory Gender Audit
REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL
Participatory Gender Audit of UNFPA’s Programme Areas and
Operations
UNFPA is one
of the leading United Nations and international development agencies with a
strong mandate, country-level presence and operational capacity to promote
women’s empowerment and gender equality. Its core mission of furthering sexual and
reproductive health and rights for all through the implementation of the
International Conference for Population and Development (ICPD) Programme of
Action and achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is a pillar
of poverty reduction, gender equality and development. As such, UNFPA is accountable for progress on
gender equality from an ethical, as well as a results-based programmatic and
financial perspective.
In support
of the attainment of Millennium Development Goal 3 (Promote Gender Equality and
Empower Women) and Goal 5 (Improve Maternal Health), the Gender and Culture
thematic area in the 6th Country Programme Action Plan aims to contribute to
strengthening of institutional mechanisms and socio-cultural practices to
promote and protect the rights of women and girls and advance gender equity and
equality.
In order to
assess the extent of UNFPA’s level of gender mainstreaming and recommend
strategies to enhance these in the way we and our partners work, UNFPA aims to conduct
a gender audit by utilizing the Participatory Gender Audit (PGA) methodology of
the International Labour Organization (ILO).
