Consultancy to conduct study on school related Gender Based Violence ( SRGBV) in and around Boarding Schools in Zambia
UNICEF Zambia is seeking to contract eligible and experienced institution to conduct a study on school related Gender Based Violence ( SRGBV) in and around Boarding schools in Zambia . Please refer to detailed terms of reference and scope of works in the RFP documents on this notice under the documents tab.
Objectives / Target
The overall objective of this study is to acquire a better understanding of School-Related Gender-Based Violence among adolescents who attend secondary school away from home, since this specific target group has been left out of SRGBV research in Zambia, as mentioned above. The objectives include a documentation of the available evidence, policy framework, manifestations across different contexts, and availability and use of support services.
This study will in turn inform policy options for a) ensuring a safe and secure childhood for all children, b) strengthening children’s ability to attend and complete secondary school without (risk of) abuse, neglect or exploitation and c) regulating and monitoring boarding schools in the best interest of learners.
More specifically, the research team will:
- Identify and gather descriptive information on the formal and informal boarding school arrangements for all 900 secondary schools in Zambia, including their location, occupancy, costs/fees, type of services provided and the quality of these services.
- Collect data to provide a picture of the quality of services in these boarding facilities, and develop a demand and supply analysis.
- Research and document the SRGBV risks that secondary school students, especially girls, face in and around these boarding facilities, and how they are cared for, what adult supervision exists, who their mentors are and how do they protect themselves from exploitation and abuse.
- Research and document the availability and use of support services (psycho-social, health and/or education) available to secondary school students who are victims of SRGBV.
- Develop recommendations and potential solutions, in discussion with the GRZ.
