Individual Consultant - UNDP's new initiative on GBV and the SDGs, BPPS/Gender - Home-based with mission travels
Gender-based violence (GBV) is a global epidemic which inhibits the fulfilment of human rights, human security and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The World Health Organisation estimates that 35 percent of women worldwide experience some form of physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. The SDGs now include explicit targets addressing violence against women, violence against children, and harmful practises. Reducing violence against women and girls is a stand-alone target under SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and also will contribute to achieving other gender equality targets and many of the other SDGs, including those on education, health and poverty.
UNDP will implement a new initiative to support the achievement of the SDGs by helping countries make progress on the specific gender-based violence and related targets. This initiative will seek to support governments to integrate GBV prevention and response into sectorial interventions and to use the evidence of what works to implement better policies and programmes to address and prevent GBV.
